Most digital transformation happens at companies. Mine has happened at public institutions: organisations with a mandate to serve everyone, budgets answerable to the public, and archives worth more than any product.
That constraint is what makes the work interesting. You cannot move fast and break a national archive. You have to build the new thing while the old thing keeps working, and bring people with you while you do it.
Changing one institution from the inside only reaches so far. Above it sit funding models, regulation, and whether the conditions exist for anyone to build at all.
That is where the work goes next: advising government on digital policy, leading a national industry alliance, and making the case for a sector most people use every day without knowing its name.
